Conceived and developed by Jacob L. Moreno, MD, psychodrama employs guided dramatic action to examine problems or issues raised by an individual (psychodrama) or a group (sociodrama). Using experiential methods, enactment and reenactment, sociometry, role theory, and group dynamics, psychodrama facilitates insight, growth and change, and integration on cognitive, affective, and behavioral levels. It clarifies issues, increases physical and emotional well being, enhances learning and develops new skills. In addition to being used in clinical fields, psychodrama is used in business, law, education, and professional training.
Psychodrama is used to explore through action the worlds in which we live, both internal and external. It allows for the safe expression of strong feelings, a wider perspective on individual and social problems and an opportunity to try out desired behaviors.
HVPI’s Winter Psychodrama Intensive will give you a theoretical and practical understanding of the methods of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. It is both didactic and experiential. The techniques learned in psychodrama workshops and trainings can be used for action interventions with groups, family, couples and individual therapy. As clients move from “talking about” into action, opportunities arise to heal the past, clarify the present and imagine and practice for the future. HVPI trainings and workshops provide a safe and supportive environment in which to experiment with the roles of director, auxiliary and protagonist. There is a strong focus on observing and working with group process.
During this highly experiential workshop participants will learn and practice the psychodramatic method, its structure, skills and techniques which are applicable to work with individuals, couples, families and groups.
You will learn:
• doubling
• role reversal
• concretization
• warm ups
Through structured exercises, vignettes and full psychodramas, group members will have the opportunity to learn the ‘nuts and bolts’ of directing psychodrama as they work on issues from their own lives in a safe and supportive environment.
You will have the opportunity to try on the roles of:
• protagonist
• auxiliary
• group member
• director
Group sociometry will be explored in action and sociometric interventions explained. Advanced students may have the opportunity to direct. Didactic sessions and thorough processing of the psychodramas will be included.
Students at all levels of experience are welcomed. Overnight accommodations are available on site.
