PSYCHODRAMATIC BODYWORK DIRECTING INTENSIVE 2027

March 16-21, 2027

Tuesday 6PM-Sunday 4PM

Location: Boughton Place, Highland, NY

Home of the original Moreno Psychodrama Stage

Overnight accommodations are available on site.

Trainer: Rebecca Walters MS, LMHC, LCAT, TEP

Register early! This Directing Intensive is limited to a small cohort of eight CPs, TEPs or Advanced Students who have completed at least 450 hours of training, directed at least four full Psychodramas, and attended at least two Advanced Psychodramatic Bodywork trainings. Others may apply to participate with the trainer’s permission.

Together, we will build on our shared experience as current and former advanced or graduate students of Psychodramatic Bodywork. In a supportive learning community, we will explore blocking styles, the continuum of emotional expression, deep-release work, and practical ways to weave these approaches into complete psychodramas.

Each participant will direct a complete two-hour, twenty-minute psychodrama session and have the opportunity to step into the role of protagonist.

Directing calls on us to be producers, social investigators, group facilitators, analysts and guides, conflict managers, and sociometrists. This intensive gives advanced directors a welcoming space to explore those roles through practice. Each participant will lead a complete psychodrama group—from warm-up through action and sharing—and will also have the opportunity to be the protagonist in their own drama. After each session, we will spend an hour reflecting together, connecting psychodramatic bodywork theory with classical psychodrama, and considering how blocking styles, emotional expression, and deep-release work enrich the process.

Training groups do not always offer enough time to direct, and clinical settings may provide few opportunities to experience the full potential of psychodramatic bodywork. This intensive brings both opportunities together. In an encouraging group setting, participants can recognize what already works in their directing, understand why it works, and gently examine the moments when they feel stuck. Together, we will use psychodrama and psychodramatic bodywork theory to make thoughtful action choices, deepen the drama, and honor the brilliance of J. L. Moreno’s methodology. At the heart of the intensive is the chance to direct a group of peers who are learning alongside you. To support a rich experience for everyone, participants should have directed at least four psychodramas or received the trainer’s permission to attend.

Rebecca brings warmth, ease, and humor to the room, creating an atmosphere where spontaneity can flourish and the nerves that come with directing in front of peers can soften. She likes to joke that everyone should make at least twelve mistakes so there will be plenty to talk about. And if you are curious, ask her about the first time she directed in front of her own trainer—and forgot to ask the protagonist what they wanted to explore. Her story is a welcome reminder that learning grows from openness, practice, and a willingness to be imperfect together.
