POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY IN ACTION:
Integrating the Power Of Psychodrama With Positive Psychology
December 7-8, 2019
Saturday 9AM-5:30PM and Sunday 9AM-4PM
Location: Highland, NY
(overnight accommodations are available)
Trainer: Dan Tomasulo, Ph.D.
Positive psychology has articulated the use of positive interventions into a new branch of researched based healing known as positive psychotherapy. Action methods derived from psychodrama and research from narrative psychology and storytelling can extend and enhance the impact of these activities. Discover the intersection of these two disciplines and learn how to put positive psychology into action!
This workshop will introduce students to how action methods can be used to enhance the outcome of positive therapeutic interventions. This combination of training and highly experiential personal work will introduce participants to the untapped resources of well-being that psychodramatic methods are particularly suited to activating. Participants will have the opportunity to practice these new interventions through work on their own issues.
Through demonstration, lecture, full psychodramas and vignettes participants will learn how to activate ‘flow’ events. They will get to practice the use of standard psychodramatic techniques including the empty chair, doubling, role reversal, mirroring, and auxiliary work as well as to increase their understanding how science has informed the use of these methods to express gratitude, compassion, forgiveness and resilience .
In addition we will address the use of resilience perspective when treating trauma and the relevant research in positive psychology that can be used in psychodrama.
Learn how one can:
- Employ resilience techniques psychodramatically
- Integrate elements of positive education into sociodrama
- Implement loving kindness meditation techniques as warm-up for psychodramas on relationship
Participants in the workshop will increase their ability to:
- Identify and Express the Components of Positivity
- Dramatize a Best Possible Self
- Identify Ways to use Sociometry to Assess Positivity within the Group
- Explore Character Strengths in Self and Others
- Utilize Active Constructive Responding
- Activate Flow Experiences
- Conduct a Gratitude Review
- Identify Uses of a Virtual Gratitude Visit
- Learn Three Ways NOT to Respond to Good News
