Internal Family Systems in Action Intensive: Acting Out Our Parts
Oct 29 – Nov 2, 2026
With Miriam Zachariah, MA, TEP and Danielle Phegan AAMFT, RP
Location: Boughton Place, Highland, NY Home of the original Moreno Psychodrama Stage Overnight accommodations are available on site and nearby.
Come learn how to help clients enact their internal system, giving their sacred parts voice and movement, allowing for more compassion, clarity and understanding. Discover what happens when we meet our sacred parts outside of ourselves, bringing them to life, and learn how to help clients to do the same. Learn and practice the use of the psychodramatic techniques of externalizing, concretization, doubling, role enactment and role reversal. Together we will put the dynamics of our own internal systems into action, embodying and befriending our internal parts.

Internal Family Systems, or IFS®, was created by Richard Schwartz. IFS® is a transformative tool that conceives every human being as a system of parts, which includes protective and wounded inner parts. With compassion and curiosity at its core, IFS® is a model which intends to bring compassion, healing and balance to every system. IFS is a predominantly internal process guided by the therapist.
Psychodrama, as conceived and developed by its creator, J. L. Moreno, M.D. (1889-1974), is a method which utilizes guided dramatic action to examine problems or issues raised in a group, or in individual counseling. Sociometry is a branch of the social sciences, based on the work of Moreno, which studies the formation and construction of groups and which features methods to describe and account for the interpersonal relations in groups.
IFS and Psychodrama, put together, can help clients move their parts into action. Psychodrama provides techniques to concretize and enact all the parts of our inner and outer world to better understand and heal the relationships between aspects of ourselves and with others. When internal parts are the dominant voice, we can cause harm to ourselves. Action methods facilitate the separation between parts and the wise self (self energy) so we can develop a strong relationship between our own wise nature which encourages clarity, compassion and the freedom to have a wider range of choices in our lives.
Participants will learn and practice the skills needed to bring all parts to life, by literally seeing them, hearing them and interacting with them. The integration of the two methods help our clients and ourselves develop curiosity and compassion as we not only witness but encounter these embodied aspects of ourselves as a way of healing.
This workshop is for those who either have some knowledge and/or experience of Internal Family Systems OR who have previous training in psychodrama. It is NOT an introduction to either. Please contact us if you have any questions.
