Directing Cohort 2: 2025-26
On the original Moreno Psychodrama Stage Boughton Place Highland, NY
For Certified Psychodramatists and Advanced Students
Participation in a Directing Intensive is a prerequisite for joining the Cohort

The Directing Cohort will meet for three sessions:
July 23-28 2025 (Wed.-Mon.) Jan 6-11 2026 (Tues.-Sun.)
3rd session will be in the Summer of 2026: Date to be determined by the group
This Directing Cohort gives pychodramatists and advanced student directors (400 hours or more) the chance to explore the many functions of the psychodrama director including the producer, the social investigator, the group facilitator, the analyst/guide, the conflict manger, the sociometrist and more. The cohort provides the opportunity to look at what we are doing that works well (and why it works!) as well as at where we get stuck in the process of directing (and why we get stuck in that particular spot). As a group, we look at psychodrama theory and how it can inform our choices of action to further facilitate the drama. We may also look at how other theoretical constructs can inform our directing choices. And equally important, the cohort offers participants a safe place to be protagonist in their own drama. Rebecca is committed to creating a warm, relaxed and humor-filled environment that encourages spontaneity and reduces the anxiety that often accompanies directing in front of one’s peers. Her expectation is that everyone will make at least twelve mistakes or she won t have anything to talk about! (And don’t forget to ask her about the first time she directed in front of her trainer and forgot to ask the protagonist what the issue was they were going to work on).
There will be ten 3 1/2 hour sessions. Each participant will get to direct a full two-hour and twenty minute psychodrama group including warm up, action and sharing. Each will have the opportunity to be the protagonist in his or her own drama. There will be an hour devoted to processing each session with an emphasis on both theory and practice. The focus of the processing will be determined by the interest of each session’s director and the group. The group will be limited to eight people, which will provide time to address theory, practice and/or supervision issues that come up or are brought in.
FOR CERTIFIED PRACTITIONERS, PATS and TEPS: Many practitioners, having graduated from their training group, no longer have the opportunity to enjoy being part of a group, nor get the chance to be a protagonist in their own psychodrama. This cohort will give you the opportunity to do both, as well as to get role relief from being the one in charge, the director, the group leader. Come enjoy being a group member, and further your skills all at the same time! FOR ADVANCED STUDENTS: Many advanced students bemoan the limited directing opportunities in their own training groups. Their directing experience is mainly on their jobs with group members of various functioning levels as well as varied experience with psychodrama.
The Directing Cohort guarantees each member a chance to direct a group of their peers. It is expected that each will have previously directed at least four psychodramas or have permission of trainer. The psychodrama community is rich with diversity of background and theoretical orientation. Because fellow group members will have trained with a variety of trainers, discussions will be enriched by a variety perspectives and training backgrounds. It also offers a great practice session for on-sites for those who are getting close to certification. ![]()
