Psychodramatic interventions that ‘go with the resistance’, honor defenses and are attuned to sociometry create the safety that help change barriers into open doors. This encourages individual and group warm up to spontaneity, healing and change. This workshop is especially useful for those working with adolescents, the chemically dependent and ‘acting out’ clients.

Together we will explore what is resistance? How does it get in the way? How does it serve us? How can we help our clients move beyond it ?

Participants will learn and practice:

Sociometric exercises that that increase group cohesion and safety
The Use of the Empty Chair
Doubling in group and individual work
The power of role reversal
Sociodrama
Participants will be taught a series of experiential structures that assist in helping reluctant clients make choices towards change.

Continuing education units provided by this training are accepted by National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) and are accepted by NYS OASAS, National Board of Certified Counselors and towards recertification requirements for the National Registry of Group Psychotherapist as well as 16 hours towards certification by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama and Group Psychotherapy.

TRAINER BIO

Rebecca Walters,M.S., TEP, LMHC, LCAT is the co-founder and co-director of the Hudson Valley Psychodrama Institute in New Paltz, NY. She is the Director of Adolescent and Child Psychodrama Services at Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in Westchester, NY, She is also the director of the Four Winds Hospital psychodrama internship program. Rebecca has worked with adolescents and the dually diagnosed since 1976.

Rebecca Walters is a Fellow of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama, and along with Judy Swallow was the recipient of the ASGPP 2005 Collaborators Award for her work in the fields of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. She is certified as a Trainer, Educator and Practitioner by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy. She is licensed in NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist and as a Mental Health Counselor.
